Garden Time? Almost!

My first seeds are up and will be ready for the garden or pots in six to eight weeks.

Start Your Own Garden This Year - We are down to only a few onions from our last year’s garden, we thought they lasted pretty well. By the 15^th of this month, I will be planting radishes and peas with hopes of an early crop. Okay – I will admit, I planted the first of my radishes today. If you have any space at all or are interested in container plants, this summer might be the right time to – grow your own. The taste of fresh garden vegetables, or backyard fruits, will get you hooked.

Meanwhile, our daffodils made it through the spring snow on Easter Sunday.

Well, well, well looks and sounds like rain-that would be nice here in the Wyoming dry country. Fishing and Golf with my 7 year old grandson seems to be taking up most of my summer days. Nice summer !

-The following is an almost true story-

 The Old-Timers Garden

A very old Wyoming man lived alone in the country. He wanted spade up his
garden, but it was difficult work as the ground was hard. His only son,
Billy, who used to help him, was in prison. The old man wrote a letter
to his son and described his predicament:


Dear Billy,

I am feeling pretty bad because it looks like I won't be able to plant my
 garden this year. I'm just getting too old to be digging up a garden
plot. If you were here my troubles would be over. I know you would dig
the plot for me.

Love, Dad


A few days later he received a letter from his son:


Dear Dad,

Don’t  dig up the garden. That is where I buried the BODIES.

Love, Billy


At 5 a.m. the next morning, FBI agents and local police arrived and dug up
the entire area without finding any bodies. They apologized to the old man
and left. That same day the old man received another letter from his son:


Dear Dad,

Sorry I could not be there to help with the garden, You can go ahead and plant now. That's the best I could do under
the circumstances.

Fire In Wyoming and My First Tomato

Great relaxing day yesterday, no fireworks at night as we are in a fire ban area, did miss that. We live in Wyoming and wildfires have been as close as two miles from us this summer. One burning now, about 40 miles west of town, 90,000 acres, think I have seen enough real fireworks this summer for one lifetime.

Oh, and I will pick my first tomato today or Friday-my earliest ever tomato in 30 years in Wyoming. I am thinking BLT.

Gardening season may be over

Well—it’s October and that means snow in Wyoming and green grass underneath. I really hate this time of year, the constant scooping of snow from the lawn and garden so that I can mow and weed. Then more snow, more scooping and more mowing and weeding. I tried something a little different this year I duct taped (or is it duck taped—you know the gray silvery stuff) anyway, as I was saying before I so rudely interrupted myself. I taped with that gray shinny tape my snow blower to the front of my lawn mower, looks a bit funny when I do the driveway but works like a charm on the lawn.
Despite the snow (three times so far for a total of a foot of snow) my garden still looks pretty good. Why do the weather people on TV and radio now refer to snow storms as snow events? Despite three separate snow events my garden still looks pretty good. Of course most of it (tomatoes and onions) is in the garage. I pulled some carrots today and they were quite tasty, thank you. The rest of the garden really does not look so good, its mostly dead beans, dead peas, dead radishes, dead strawberries, dead herbs of all kinds (don’t like most of them anyway) and lots of dead flowers. And so as I started—Well –it’s October and so much for gardening this year.
